Dileswar Rana Honored with Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar-2023

Kolkata: Emerging writer Dileswar Rana has been honored with the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar-2023 for his short story collection ‘Senrra.’ The recognition brought him a copper plaque, a traditional gamchha, and a cash prize of ₹50,000. In the ceremony presided over by Sahitya Akademi’s president, Madhav Kaushik, distinguished Bengali poet Prof. Subodh Sarkar, the academy’s secretary K. Srinivasarao, and vice-president Prof. Kumud Sharma extended their commendations to Mr. Rana. Notably, Dileswar, hailing from Dhanramal village under Narla block in the Kalahandi district and the son of Braja Rana and Bidusuta Rana, has actively engaged in writing stories and poetry, acting, and literary organizations. His short story collection ‘Senrra,’ published by Timepass, and the novel ‘Melibhuin,’ published by the National Book Trust, have garnered widespread readership. The telefilm adaptation of ‘Senrra’ aired on Doordarshan, earning acclaim from the audience. In recognition of his literary contributions, he has secured accolades such as the PM Yuva Mentorship, Katha Nabapratibha Puraskar, Kadambini Galap Unmesh Puraskar, Tapasya Sambhabana Puraskar, Pallaban Shabda Samman, Devgiri Yuva Samman, Kalahandi Yuva Pratibha Puraskar, and more. Additionally, he has actively participated in Sahitya Akademi’s Yuva Sahiti program. Dileswar has also showcased his acting prowess on various national stages and starred in the Bollywood film ‘A Red Short’ alongside actor Raghubir Jadav. Currently, he serves as the presenter of Akashvani Bhawanipatna and holds the position of convener at the Global Literature Foundation. Following his well-deserved award, numerous organizations and individuals in Odisha have extended their congratulations to him.
