Cuttack: Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel today seized gold ornaments weighing around 1 Kg from a passenger in train No-12822 Howrah-Puri Dhauli Express at Cuttack railway station. The RPF team has detained the man in this connection and initiated a detailed probe.
The detainee was identified as Palash Patra (37) from the Midnapore locality of neighbouring West Bengal.
According to an official source, a man was suspected to be carrying the yellow metal in a backpack. He was detained for interrogation as he could not produce any valid document in support of the gold.
“On the occasion of Rath Yatra, a special team has been formed to safeguard passengers’ safety. The team was conducting routine checks on the trains passing through Cuttack, including the Puri-Howrah Dhauli Express. During the search, a person traveling in the AC compartment was found illegally carrying approximately a kilogram of gold ornaments. The individual has been detained, and legal action is underway,” the RPF IIC Anil Kumar Singh said mediapersons.
Palash Patra used to supply gold ornaments to different jewellery outlets without documents. He has been doing this for the last several months, the senior cop further said.
