Kolkata, YNN: Sahitya Akademi confers its prestigious Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize every year and Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2024 was presented at the grand ceremony on 24 October 2025 at 5.00 p.m. at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Bhasha Bhavan Auditorium, National Library, Belvedere, Kolkata.
The Award presentation ceremony was conducted by Dr K.S. Sreenivasarao, Secretary, Sahitya Akademi. At the beginning, he informed the audience of the significance of the programme and also about the life and activities of the Translation Prize 2024 Award winners. Dr. Madhav Kaushik, President, Sahitya Akademi, presented the prize to the Award winners. In his speech, he analysed the importance of translation in the context of India. He referred to great creative writers who eventually entered the world of translation and themselves influenced by translation Prof. Sukanta Chaudhuri, eminent Scholar graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He fouced on the social context in translation studies as well as different modes of translation strategies. Prof. Kumud Sharma, Vice-President, Sahitya Akademi, deliverd the concluding remarks. She threw light on the role of multilinguality on the evolution of the literary culture of India. He also spoke on the importance of translation in language learning and language studies.
Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2024 winners are – Anjan Sarma (Assamese), Basudev Das (Bengali), Uttara Bwiswmuthiary (Bodo), Archana Kesar (Dogri), Anisur Rahman (English), Ramanik Agrawat (Gujarati), Madan Soni (Hindi), Siddhaling Pattanshetti (Kannada), Ghulam Nabi Aatash (Kashmiri), Milind Mhamal (Konkani), Keshkar Thakur (Maithili), K.V. Kumaran (Malayalam), Soibamcha Indrakumar (Manipuri), Sudarshan Athavale (Marathi), Amar Baaniyaa ‘Lohoro’ (Nepali), Suvash Chandra Satapathy (Odia), Chandan Negi (Punjabi), Sohandan Charan (Rajasthani), Somanath Dash (Sanskrit), Najir Hembrom (Santali), (Late) Sobha Lalchandani (Sindhi), P. Vimala (Tamil), Turlapati Rajeswari (Telugu).
Due to unavoidable circumstances, no representative of (Late) Sobha Lalchandani (Sindhi) and Ghulam Nabi Aatash (Kashmiri) could be present in the Award presentation ceremony. On behalf of Chandan Negi (Punjabi), he daughter received the Prize.
