Phulbani: Vigilance sleuths today trapped a senior police officer and seized over Rs 1 lakh cash from him in connection with disproportionate asset case here in Kandhamal district on Sunday.
Inspector-in-charge of Kotpad police station Dhiraj Kumar Lenka was heading towards Phulbani in a private vehicle while a team of Vigilance intercepted him near Baliguda and seized Rs 1.80 lakh unaccounted cash from him.
Lenka was allegedly demanding bribe from people to hush up cases against them in several occasions. He had also faced several allegations of bribery and misconduct.
Recently he had also allegedly thrashed a home guard and abused him. The home guard had also taken the matter to the notice of SP.
The anti graft agency is investigating into the wealth he had amassed in illegal way.
