Samajwadi Party Protest call for caste-based census and social justice for backward classes in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Recently, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav came on a two-day visit to Odisha. He demanded caste-based census and pressed the BJP government in the state and the Centre on various issues. Political commentators have expressed the opinion that Akhilesh’s visit to Odisha can create a new equation in state politics. Meanwhile, the party has started becoming active under the leadership of Odisha Pradesh President of Samajwadi Party Shiba Hati Yadav. It has been seen that he has been able to strengthen the organization in a few months of working as the state president.

A press release from the Samajwadi Party said; The cultural and political situation in Odisha and the failure of the Double Ingine government have overwhelmed the people of the state. In this context, the Samajwadi Party Odisha, State Committee has made its stand for the rights and constitutional rights of the backward, Tribal, Dalit, and minority communities of Odisha. After the visit of the party’s national president Alesh Yadav to Odisha on the 17th April 2025, the door of social justice for the backward, Dalit, tribal, and minority communities of Odisha has been opened and a political storm has been created in the state.

The party’s organization was weakened due to the anti-party activities and the greedy attitude of the former president, who was the party’s Odisha president for many years. After realizing this, the national president expelled the former president from the party. Along with this, a notice has been issued to the former president on the charge of usurping party funds and legal action is underway. The Samajwadi Party will strengthen its organization in Odisha under the leadership of the new president Shiba Hati Yadav, National President Akhilesh Yadav has clarified during his visit to Odisha. Therefore, the news published in the media about the change of party president is completely baseless and false rumors, the Samajwadi Party has clarified.

The people of Odisha know that even though Congress and BJD were in power in Odisha for a long time, the so-called leaders never opened their mouths for the interests of OBCs. Those who, while being Union and state ministers, used to ignore the interests of the backward classes and pursue their own interests, now after leaving power, are unfortunate enough to introduce themselves as the interests of the backward classes. After the Double Engine government comes to power in Odisha, the way some politicians who are left out due to internal divisions in regional parties and communal tensions in Congress are conspiring to assert their position through politics can be fatal for them. The Samajwadi Party is a disciplined party formed on the ideals of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Mulayam Singh Yadav, which was formed out of the struggle for the constitutional rights of the backward classes. In the imperial political situation in Odisha, the efforts of some leaders to mislead the people of the state by introducing themselves as the interests of the backward classes are futile. At the same time, if a leader of a different political party wants to become a supporter of the Samajwadi Party, the Samajwadi Party will welcome him. The Samajwadi Party will strengthen its organizational position from the grassroots level for caste-based census and social justice in Odisha. In addition, in the upcoming 2027 Panchayat elections, the Samajwadi Party will field its candidates from all over Odisha under the leadership of Odisha State President Shiv Hathi Yadav. The double engine government of Odisha has looted the Odisha economy by transferring Odisha’s mining, water and various public sector enterprises to various private companies in the past 11 months, which the Samajwadi Party strongly opposes. Similarly, the Samajwadi Party State Committee has demanded that the 27 percent reservation for the backward classes in Odisha be implemented in the three-tier Panchayat Raj elections, education and employment sectors, as determined by the Mandal Commission report.

Odisha has been ruled by the upper classes for many years. Those who have never taken any steps for the interests of the backward classes. It is a conspiracy and a joke that they are now calling for a fight for the interests of the backward classes to strengthen their political position. The Odisha State Committee of the Samajwadi Party, under the leadership of Odisha’s Shiba Hati Yadav, will continue its struggle for the constitutional rights and social justice of the 54% OBC or Backward Classes. Along with this, a state-wide agitation will be held to convert the ‘number of those who are greater, the greater their share’ justice into a legal process by conducting a caste census. After the Odisha visit of Samajwadi Party National President Alesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party State President Shiba Hati Yadav has strongly opined that the PDA will set a new tone in the politics of equality in Odisha as well.
