Kalahandi, YNN (Lingaraj Mishra): A large Kalash Yatra took place on Saturday evening at the Debsar Dham Durga Temple in Rupra Road, situated in the Narla block of Kalahandi district. The event marked the beginning of Chaitra Navratri and the 72 Prahar Akhand Naam Yagya. The procession began at the local Sandul River, where women carried 2,100 kalashes filled with water to the yagya mandap at the temple.
Young boys and girls, dressed as Pouranik characters, joined the procession, adding colour and vibrancy. Folks performing Kirtan further enhanced the splendour of the grand event. Many women from nearby villages such as Lakhaguda, Rupra Road, Balabaspur, Bargaon, Bilat, and Chhatamahul participated in great numbers.
The Chaitra Navratri and 72 Prahar Naam Yagya will commence on Sunday, 30 March, at the Debsar Dham Durga Temple and will continue uninterrupted until 8 April. On Saturday, 29 March, preparations began with an adhivas ceremony, followed by the Kalash Procession in the evening. Starting Sunday morning, both the Navratri festivities and the Akhand Naam Yagya will get underway.
The event is being organised under the supervision of Debsar Dham Trust President Mulchand Agrawal, Chairman Gobind Ram Agrawal, Vice President and Narla Block Chairman Durgaprasad Mohanty, Secretary Pradeep Kumar Agrawal, and Joint Secretary Shyamsundar Sharma. The residents of Rupra Road village are also lending their support to ensure the success of this programme. Pandit Upendra Kumar Panda will serve as the chief priest for the 72 Prahar Naam Yagya.
