Odisha Govt Goes Tough To Curb Sale Of Spurious Medicines; 12 Firms Booked

Bhubaneswar: The State Health and Family Welfare Department have acted strictly on the sale of spurious medicines. After the detection of spurious drugs at Cuttack, supplied from outside the state, all officers of the department were instructed to focus on medicine supplies from outside the state. It has yielded good results and many drugs have been recalled from even retailers’ points whenever there is suspicion.

According to a press note, cases have been registered against 12 firms including six from Cuttack, two from Jharsuguda, and one each from Kendrapada, Sundargarh, Bargarh and Sambalpur after the seizure of drugs.

The monitoring mechanism has been tightened and a close watch is being made on each and every strip of medicine, resulting in recall wherever necessary. Raids are also continuing at different places in the state. Stringent action will be taken where required.

The Department has registered cases against V.R. AGENCY. PUJA ENTERPRISES, KYAL AGENCY, MAHABIR PRASAD RADHESHYAM, SHREE DISTRIBUTOR, SRI M.H of Cuttack, SHYAM MEDICAL and AMIT AGENCY of Jharsuguda, PRAKASH MEDICAL PVT LTD, SUNDARGARH, ASHOK MEDICAL HALL of Bargarh, DURGA AGENCY of Sambalpur and SAI TRADERS of Kendrapara.

Cases have also been registered for supplying substandard Ringer Lactate solution (Compound sodium Lactate injection), MFD by M/S-Ives Drugs (India) Pvt. Ltd, Indore (M.P) to Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited. A case has been registered in the Court of JMFC Barpali. Detail constitution of the manufacturer has been sought from the Madhya Pradesh government. The firm has also been blacklisted by OSMCL.
