Kalahandi, YNN (Rajat Bansal): An awareness workshop on the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana (PM-SGY) and Jal Shakti Abhiyan was successfully conducted at Srirampur, Khuntia Gram Panchayat, Koksara Block. The event was organised jointly by the Central Bureau of Information, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, and the Dandapat Yuva Seva Sangathan.
The programme was presided over by Khagesh Baipai, Field Publicity Officer of the Central Bureau of Information, Bhawanipatna, with Dilip Kumar Maharana, Additional Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad, Kalahandi, attending as the chief guest. Key speakers included Nirmala Chandra Naik, Principal of Lakhiram Agarwal Higher Secondary School, and Biswanath Rout, Block Development Officer, Koksara. Other notable attendees included Khuntia Sarpanch Madhabi Dharua, former Sarpanch Dharmabrata Panda, Rajat Bansal, President of Dandapat Yuva Seva Sangathan, and Samiti Member Devendra Dharua.
The workshop aimed to educate the public about the benefits and implementation of the PM-SGY, which facilitates the installation of solar panels on residential rooftops through government subsidies and loans. The speakers elaborated on how this initiative could provide free electricity and generate income by selling surplus energy.
The event also raised awareness about water conservation, pollution control, and sustainable water use under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan. A question-and-answer session was held for women from self-help groups (SHGs), with prizes awarded to those who answered correctly.
Certificates and prizes were distributed to the winners of school-level competitions held earlier in connection with the event. The workshop commenced with an awareness rally promoting the PM-SGY, which traversed the village and drew considerable attention from residents.
A cultural programme followed, with local artists raising awareness of various government schemes through captivating dance and music performances.
Key contributors to the event’s success included Bhujabal Naik, Secretary of the Dandapat Yuva Seva Sangathan; Trilok Nath Singh, Vice President; Sushil Chandra Nag, Joint Secretary; Bhikari Charan Gopal, Treasurer; and members such as Hemal Bishi, Bhishma Banua, along with volunteers from Mission Shakti, SHGs, and Mahavir Yuva Anusthan. Teacher Kshirasindhu Banua moderated the proceedings, while Abinash Mund conducted the interactive session.
The programme concluded with active participation from the local community, including villagers, women, and youth organisations, showcasing a collaborative effort to promote national development schemes.
