Kalahandi Jana Sangram Samiti Presents Demand Letter to Governor After 17-Day Foot March

Kalahandi, YNN (Sushant Kumar Dalei): On Gandhi Jayanti, October 2nd, the Kalahandi District Jana Sangram Samiti, led by President Saul Mangaraj, commenced a significant foot march from Kalahandi to Bhubaneswar. This march, which included social workers and dedicated youth, aimed to deliver a memorandum to the Governor of Odisha, highlighting the district’s pressing issues and demands.

After a challenging seventeen-day journey, the marchers reached the Raj Bhawan on October 18th and presented their demand letter to the Honourable Governor of Odisha, Mr. Raghubar Das. The Governor expressed his concern over Kalahandi’s lagging development despite its rich natural resources and assured the delegation of his visit to the district soon.

The demand letter included 26 key points, such as the extension of the railway track in Kalahandi district, upgrading Dharmagarh sub-division to district status, provision of crop insurance for farmers, establishment of a JMFC court in Golamunda, appointment of specialist doctors and upgrading Golamunda CHC to a 20-bed hospital, conversion of Junagarh hospital to an area hospital, construction of barrages in the Udanti and Tel rivers, provision of cold storage facilities in all blocks, and the establishment of a mortuary centre. Additionally, the letter called for the fulfilment of all promises made by the BJP in the last election.

Prominent participants in the march included Anil Kumar Mallik, Lambodar Jal, Kumud Gahir, Ramesh Sahu, Ranjan Behera, Keshab Majhi, Asaru Majhi, Parshuram Majhi, Gauranga Majhi, Durbal Majhi, Sadananda Majhi, Chitra Majhi, Lal Majhi, Pitash Sipka, Sameer Sipka, and Debendra Majhi.
