New Delhi, YNN (Rajat Bansal): On day 2 of the 75th edition of the prestigious Frankfurt International Book Fair, on 17 October 2024, Sahitya Akademi, India’s premier literary institution, engaged with several publishers from various countries and organized a literary event. In the event, “Meet the Author,” Prof Badri Narayan, eminent scholar, poet and academician, was in conversation with Dr K. Sreenivasarao, Secretary, Sahitya Akademi. The conversation covered a wide range of subjects and Prof Badri Narayan talked about change and constancy in reality, literary portrayals of change and constant in the contemporary Indian literary milieu, folk literature, phenomenon of increasing emergence of writers from rural spaces of India, poetry, the role of translation in uniting communities and societies and the impact of foreign writers on Indian literary landscape. Prof Narayan also talked briefly about his works, especially poetry, the reasons for taking up specific subjects and the task of writing freestyle etc. He also talked about the necessity to use the power of literature to promote unity and peace not only in India but also across the globe. He gave several examples of how literary creations can be used to galvanize masses, ignite movements and move nations. Sahitya Akademi will continue to engage authors and publishers from several countries throughout the fair.
