This year’s theme: ‘Data for Sustainable Development’
New Delhi: The Government of India has been celebrating Statistics Day on 29th June every year, since 2007, to mark the birth anniversary of late Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, in recognition of his valuable contribution in the field of Economic Planning and Statistics. The major objective of celebrating Statistics Day is creation of public awareness, especially among the younger generation, on the role and importance of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation for development of the country.
On each Statistics Day, one particular theme of current national importance is chosen for intensive and focused discussions towards filling the data gaps and improvement in data collection, processing and dissemination. The theme selected for Statistics Day, 2022 is ‘Data for Sustainable Development’. This year, Statistics Day is also being celebrated as a part of week-long celebration in the Ministry, during 27th June 2022 to 3rd July 2022, in commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), an initiative of the Government.
The event will be held in a hybrid mode (physical-cum-virtual) on 29th June, 2022 at Auditorium of NDMC Convention Centre, Palika Kendra, Jai Singh Road, New Delhi from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The registration for the event will begin at 10:00 AM on 29.06.2022 at the venue.
The Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), Rao Inderjit Singh, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation & Ministry of Planning and Minister of State in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs would grace the occasion as Chief Guest of the aforesaid event. Other dignitaries/senior officials of Central/State Governments, International Dignitaries, etc. are expected to join the event. The event is also to be web-cast/live streamed through social media handles of the Ministry.
Every year, one particular theme of current national importance is chosen for focused discussions towards improvements in statistical systems of the area and filling the Data Gaps. The theme of Statistics Day, 2022 is “Data for Sustainable Development”.
