Kalahandi, YNN (Rajat Bansal): The emerging young writer from Kalahandi, Dileswar Rana, has been conferred the “Fakir Mohan Vishwavidyalaya Yuva Galpika Puraskar-2025”. The university has commended his remarkable contribution to Odia literature through his storytelling. In recognition of his dedication and creativity in enriching Odisha’s cultural heritage through his narratives, he was presented with this prestigious award, instituted by distinguished storyteller Dr. Kabita Barik. The award was presented during the 27th Foundation Day celebrations of Fakir Mohan University in Balasore.
The event was graced by Chief Guest Pratap Chandra Sarangi, MP, Balasore, Chief Speaker Arupa Kalita Patangia, a Sahitya Akademi award-winning Assamese writer, Vice-Chancellor Professor Santosh Tripathi, Registrar Kukumina Das, and Chairman, PG Council Bhaskar Behera, among others, who felicitated Mr. Rana.
Born in Dhanramal village under Narla block in Kalahandi district, Dileswar has a keen interest in writing stories, poems, novels, features, and songs, as well as acting and presenting stage and radio. His published short story collection ‘Senrra’ published by Timepass and the novel ‘Melibhuin’, published by National Book Trust, have gained widespread acclaim among readers. A telefilm based on the title story of ‘Senrra’ was broadcast on Doordarshan and received significant appreciation. For his literary contributions, he has been honoured with numerous awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar, the PM Yuva Mentorship, the Katha Nabapratibha Puraskar, the Kadambini Galpa Unmesha Puraskar, the Tapasya Sambhavana Puraskar, the Pallaban Shabda Samman, the Devgiri Yuva Samman, and the Kalahandi Yuva Pratibha Puraskar, etc. He has also participated in the Sahitya Akademi’s Yuva Sahiti programme. Additionally, he has performed on various stages across the country and acted alongside Bollywood actor Raghubir Yadav in the film ‘A Red Shirt’. Various organisations and individuals across the state have congratulated him on receiving this award.
