Call for Book Fair in Kalahandi by Global Liferature Foundation

Bhawanipatna, YNN (Rajat Bansal): The Global Liferature Foundation, an organisation dedicated to promoting lifestyle and literature, has urged the local administration to organise a district-level book fair in Kalahandi. The Foundation submitted a memorandum to Kalahandi Collector and District Magistrate Sachin Pawar Prakash, highlighting the region’s rich cultural and literary heritage.

In the memorandum, the Foundation stressed that Kalahandi has made significant contributions to Odia literature, having produced numerous eminent writers throughout history. The district is also home to the 15,000-year-old Gudahandi cave paintings, which stand as a testament to the creativity and artistic talent of its people.

Despite the district’s rich literary tradition and the presence of a large number of literature enthusiasts, Kalahandi has not hosted regular book fairs, unlike other districts in the state. The only book fair in recent memory was organised in 2018, coinciding with District Formation Day.

The Foundation has called on the administration to address this gap and organise a regular district-level book fair to cater to the interests of local writers and readers. During a meeting with the Collector, the Foundation’s delegation—comprising Adviser Parameswar Mund, Secretary Rajat Bansal, Convenors Sudhir Kumar Dhangadamajhi and Dileswar Rana, and Member Bikash Ranjan Mund—discussed the importance of such an event for the district.
