Hyderabad gang rape Case: Innova used for crime marked as govt vehicle

Hyderabad: In the latest development in the Hyderabad gang rape case, it has come to the fore that the vehicle, an Innova, in which the crime occurred was a government car. All six accused named in the case so far, including four minors, have been taken into custody.

A 17-year-old girl, who went to a club for a party on May 28, where she met a boy. She purportedly left the club with him and his friends in a Mercedes after they promised to drop her home. Soon, they reached a cafe nearby and switched to an Innova around 6.30 pm. The girl was then allegedly taken to an isolated spot on Road No. 44 and raped in the Innova, which the accused parked in Banjara Hills. The area is a posh locality in Hyderabad where many high-profile politicians, businessmen, actors, and other influential people live. She was dropped back at the pub at around 7.30 pm.

One of the adults accused in the case, Saduddin, said the crime took place inside a Toyota Innova Crysta. The car was then seized by the police from a farmhouse. The farmhouse is owned by a woman with links with a political family. The Innova was found to be marked as a government vehicle and was apparently being used by a top Waqf board functionary. Sources said that both the Mercedes and the Innova were driven by minors during the crime. According to sources, the Mercedes used in the alleged gang rape belongs to a Telangana MLA. The MLA, however, said that the accused was not there in the car when the crime took place.
