भाद्रपद माह के कृष्णपक्ष की अष्टमी के दिन संपूर्ण भारत देश में और अन्य कई देशों में भगवान श्रीकृष्ण का जन्मोत्सव मनाया जाता है। इस दिन कृष्ण मंदिरों में आकर्षक सजावट की जाती है। मंदिरों और घरों में आकर्षक झूला सजाया जाता है। रात्रि में ठीक 12 बजे भगवान का जन्म करवाकर आरती उतारी जाती है। माखन मिश्री का प्रसाद का वितरण किया जाता है। इस दिन अनेक जगहों पर दही हांडी प्रतियोगिता भी आयोजित की जाती है। खासकर महाराष्ट्र में बड़े पैमाने पर दही हांडी फोड़ने की प्रतियोगिता होती है।
इस साल भगवान श्रीकृष्ण का जन्मोत्सव 30 अगस्त 2021 सोमवार को मनाया जाएगा। इस दिन रोहिणी नक्षत्र, बाल करण और सर्वार्थसिद्धि योग भी रहेगा। वृषभ राशि का चंद्रमा भी रहेगा। ये सारे योग-संयोग इस दिन को और भी विशेष बना रहे हैं। ऐसे शुभ संयोग में भगवान श्रीकृष्ण का जन्मोत्सव मनाया जाएगा। 30 अगस्त को भाद्रपद माह के कृष्ण पक्ष की अष्टमी तिथि रात्रि में दो बजे तक रहेगी। इसी दिन प्रात: 6 बजकर 40 मिनट से रोहिणी नक्षत्र प्रारंभ होगा जो अगले दिन प्रात: 9.45 बजे तक रहेगा। इस दिन सर्वार्थसिद्धि योग पूरे दिन रात रहेगा। यह योग प्रात: 6.41 बजे से प्रारंभ होकर अगले दिन प्रात: 6. 11 बजे तक रहेगा। इस योग-संयोग में 30 अगस्त की रात्रि 12 बजे यशोदानंदन कन्हैया का जन्म होगा।
