Samajwadi Party Workers’ Conference and Joining Event in Khariar

New Political Dynamics to Emerge in Nuapada District

200 Workers from BJP and BJD Join Samajwadi Party

Khariar, YNN: A district-level workers’ conference and joining event organised by the Samajwadi Party was held at the Kaushalya Mandap in Khariar, Nuapada district. Chaired by the Samajwadi Party’s Nuapada district president, Benudhar Gahir, the event saw the participation of the party’s national spokesperson and Odisha in-charge, Sunil Singh Yadav, as the chief guest. Yadav sharply criticised both the central and state governments, stating, “The BJP’s double-engine government has neglected Odisha in every sphere. It’s not a double-engine government but a double-looting one. The Samajwadi Party is the only viable alternative for the upliftment of the backward, tribal, and Dalit communities.”

The party’s state president, Shiba Hati Yadav, expressed concern over the ongoing fertiliser crisis in Odisha, asserting that the Samajwadi Party would consistently fight for farmers’ interests. Other prominent leaders, including Odisha state general secretary Pratap Kishor Barik, state media cell president Pradeep Mishra, backward classes state president Sufal Karuan, youth wing state president Pradeep Thapa, Balangir district president Jaydev Jal, and Bhubaneswar president Praveen Nayak, were present on the dais, emphasising the need to strengthen and organise the Samajwadi Party in Nuapada district.

During the event, over 200 workers from the BJP and BJD, led by Digpal Nag and Bachha Babu, defected to join the Samajwadi Party. Notable figures, including Dalit leader and distinguished lawyer Jagdish Suna from Bangomunda and BJP leader Chaitanya Hans from Kantabanji, announced their decision to join the party, inspired by the ideals of Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav and state president Shiba Hati Yadav.

The party’s Odisha in-charge Sunil Singh Yadav, state president Shiba Hati Yadav, and other party leaders warmly welcomed the new members. Among others present at the joining event were Nuapada district secretary Gangadhar Banachhor, Dalit leader Budharu Bibhar, Kanhu Jagat and Kishor Kathar.

The Samajwadi Party is reportedly considering fielding a candidate in the upcoming Nuapada by-election, a move that political analysts believe could create new dynamics in the region’s political landscape.
