Poetry gives me strength: Mamata Dash

Sahitya Akademi’s Book Release and Kavisandhi Programme

Bhubaneswar, YNN (Rajat Bansal):  The Kendra Sahitya Akademi organised a Book Release and Kavisandhi programme in the new conference hall of Buddha Temple, Bhubaneswar. Draupadi: The Woman Unparagoned, an English epic poem written by Prof. Prafulla Kumar Mohanty, was released in the first programme.

It was released by eminent linguist Prof. Devi Prasanna Patnaik and Convener of the Odia Advisory Board Dr. Gourahari Das in the presence of the writer, Prof. Mohanty. The book is also published by Sahitya Akademi.

Distinguished critic and poet Professor Mohanty said that it is an epic poem based on the original Mahabharata. It describes Draupadi as a uniquely independent and autonomous character. In the poem, Draupadi asks various questions of society.

In the second phase, eminent poet Mamata Dash delivered a speech about her literary journey and read out a few of her poems in the Kavisandhi programme. She also answered various questions from the audience. She said that poetry keeps her strong during life’s sorrows. She also spoke about senior poets who inspired her greatly. Both programmes were presided over by Dr. Gourahari Das.

Officer-in-Charge of the Sahitya Akademi, Kolkata Office, Kshetrabasi Naik, delivered the welcome address, while the vote of thanks was given by Pabitra Mohan Kar, Member of the Odia Advisory Board. Many senior and young writers were present at this programme.
