The event drew hundreds of writers, poets, and culturally inclined individuals from across the district, all eager to celebrate Rath’s literary achievements.
Kalpana Rath, born in 1961, has carved a niche for herself as a prominent writer, poet, educationist, and organizer in Kalahandi and beyond. Her earlier published work, “Boura Shadhi,” garnered widespread acclaim. Now, her latest offerings”Pratha”, a collection of stories, and “Kandhei”, a collection of poems—have captivated readers and critics alike.
The poems in “Kandhei” resonate with simplicity and clarity, touching the hearts of readers. Rath skillfully employs anger, irony, and satire to depict the current societal landscape. The stories in “Pratha” challenge the prevailing norms and advocate for change in our conservative society.
The book launch event featured esteemed guests, including storyteller Sukant Sahu, renowned educationist and poet Lingaraj Mishra, noted playwright and writer Umesh Chandra Shatapathy, senior journalist and writer Umashkar Kar, poet and journalist Lalit Kanungo, and dramatist Parameswar Mund. Poet Biranchi Narayan Mund anchored the program, while young poet Pratap Panda delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks.
The audience was treated to recitations from “Kandhei” by poets Snehalata Sarangi, Swarnakanti Baikar, Archana Mishra, Pranati Mishra, Kajal Maharana, and Anita Mund. Their collective praise emphasized the emotional depth and lasting impact of Rath’s writing.
