Kandhamal: A day after the death of a class VII girl following postpartum complication, the district administration has initiated action against hostel matron and others of the Ashram school where the minor mother was pursuing her education.
Hostel matron Ranjita Behera of Rangaparu Ashram School under Tumudibandha block in the district has been placed under suspension for dereliction of duty.
Based on the investigation report on Baliguda sub-collector, the headmaster, hostel deputy superintendent and the ANM have also been issued show-cause notices, district welfare officer informed.
The minor girl student of the school who had become pregnant due to sexual exploitation died on Friday at G Udaygiri Community Health Centre after giving birth to a stillborn child. Hours after the delivery, she had succumbed to postpartum complication at the hospital.
The girl is a resident of Saperi village under Ragharaguma panchayat under the same block.
According to reports, the minor victim got pregnant due to sexual exploitation. As the matter came to fore, the school authorities had lodged a complaint with police at Belghar.
Acting on the complaint, police had conducted medical examinations of the girl and the boy who was involved in the incident. Later, the victim had been kept in a shelter home (Swadhar Gruha).
She was admitted to the health Centre following acute labour pain on Thursday. She gave birth to a stillborn baby and died hours after the delivery.
